وتعتبر الموسوعة إضافة هامة للمعنيين بفهم الأصول اللغوية ومحبي الاشتقاقات اللغوية ومعانيها، حيث تعنى بما أطلق عليه "اللغة الهلالية" نسبة لمنطقة الهلال الخصيب، وهي المفردات التي تُستخدم في العامية الفلسطينية والعربية وليست من أصول لغوية عربية، حيث تشترك الشعوب العربية خاصة في بلاد الشام ومصر والعراق بمفردات تستعمل في اللغة المحكية اليومية، وتعبر عن الغنى والاختلاط الثقافي لهذه المناطق.
ويقول د. كناعنة في مقدمة الكتاب: "ما اهتمامي بالمفردات غير العربية في العامية الفلسطينية سوى محاولة لرد الاعتبار لكل الحضارات واللغات التي ساهمت في بناء وعينا وثقافتنا، ولإعطاء كل ذي حق حقه دون زيادة أو نُقصان. وليس كل ما هو غير عربي في عاميتنا الفلسطينية العربية لحناً أو تشويهاً أو خرقاً لأصول العربية الفصحى، وإنما هو في الحقيقة كنز حضاري معرفي يجب أن نعرفه ونعترف بقيمته ونعطيه حق قدره".
يذكر أن د. كناعنة من مواليد عرابة في أراضي عام 1948 ويعمل محاضراً في علم الإنسان وعلم النفس في جامعة بيرزيت، وهو باحث متخصص في التراث الشعبي الفلسطيني، ونشر عدداً من الكتب والأبحاث المتخصصة، إضافة لكتاباته الأدبية".
"Moslih Kanaaneh, assistant professor of social and behavioral sciences at Birzeit University, collected non-Arabic vocabulary that is usually common among the people who live in the Crescent area, especially in Palestine, in a new encyclopedia entitled “Non-Arabic Vocabulary in the Palestinian Colloquium.”
The book, published by Majdalawi Publishing and Distribution in Amman- Jordan, dives into the linguistic origins and language derivatives of the terms that are used in the colloquial and informal language used in Palestine and the Arab region in general. Kanaaneh called this language the “Crescent Language” according to the studied area, the Fertile Crescent, which stretches from the Nile River in Egypt to the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in modern Iraq. The people of this area, according to Kanaaneh, use special terms in their daily interactions that reflect the richness of their culture.
Kanaaneh emphasized the importance of the new encyclopedia as it revives, appreciates and honors each civilization and language that contributed in building the Palestinian and Arab cultures and its people’s consciousness. “Focusing on the non-Arabic terms use the informal language in Palestine or the Arab region is a great asset that we all should recognize and cherish.”
Dr. Moslih Kanaaneh, born in Arrabeh [in the 1948-region], Palestine, has authored and co-authored several national and international publications and has worked as a reviewer for reputed professional journals. He has an active association with different global societies and academies, and has made his mark in the scientific community with contributions and wide recognition from honorable subject experts around the world. Kanaaneh, who received several awards for his contributions to the scientific community, has major research interests in community social work, policy change and promotion of legislation, corporate social responsibility, and leadership and empowerment in the community."
